Frequently asked questions

Are the kitchen science answers oversimplified?

They are compressed, which is the honest word. A four-option food question can carry the mechanism but not its exceptions, so the answers give the standard explanation a cookery school would start from and stop there. If one of them makes you want the longer version, the question has done its job.

Whose version of a dish counts as correct?

Where a dish has many regional versions, this food quiz asks about the part they agree on — the ingredient that defines it, the technique it cannot be made without — and avoids questions that would crown one region over another. Where a name is legally protected by origin, that legal definition is the answer, because that one is genuinely settled.

Will this make me a better cook?
